Snowdon is Wales’ Best Experience

SnowdonIt’s something that we’ve been saying for a long while here at Snowdon.com and it turns out that plenty of people agree with us: Snowdon offers the best experience out of anything for visitors to Wales to enjoy.

The majority of the two thousand Brits quizzed chose ascending Snowdon as the absolute best thing to do whilst you’re in Wales in a poll conducted by none other than Bear Grylls. The television personality and hardened survivalist was working with the Discovery Channel to create ‘wonder lists’ in recognition of the channel’s 25th year.

46% of those polled chose the national icon no doubt thanks to the stunning horizon views and brutally challenging nature of its climb. Although it’s the most well-trodden mountain throughout the United Kingdom, not many people make the full ascension as it is a climb certainly not to be sniffed at.

Also voted for in numbers as a must-see was the village of Portmeirion with 34% of the public vote, finishing as the runner-up. The Great Orme in Llandudno also managed to get in the top 10 with 15% of the vote for the ninth position on the list.

Bear Grylls himself chose hiking in Snowdonia as the essential activity to enjoy throughout the United Kingdom, a sentiment that is echoed by the thousands who ramble through it each year.

However, it must be said that Snowdon is not the only mountain in North Wales and thanks to how busy the path up Snowdon can be, it’s often a good idea to choose one of the lesser-known ranges instead.

John Harold of the Snowdonia Society said on the news: “There are many other mountains in Snowdonia that provide a more interesting and more demanding physical challenge than Snowdon itself.

“Around the Carneddau, the Glyderau and in the south of the park Cader Idris… (are other examples). If you’re really adventurous there are some very different experiences in places like the Rhinogydd, which are truly wild places where you won’t be in a motorway of people going up and down.”

Snowdon is a popular place to visit in North Wales and due to th visitor interest, plenty of people have taken to local hotels in Snowdonia as a place to base their trip.
