Multiple Marathons in Snowdonia This October

IMG_9796The weather might be as unpredictable as a referendum but there’s no disputing that you can predict there will be a bevy of fantastic marathons in Snowdonia, no matter the weather. Competitors turn up in their thousands, no matter the season, for good reason.

This October, as the cold bite starts to return and the sky returns to its distinctively grey hue, the hills of Snowdonia will be alive with the sounds of plenty of panting and puffing. Here are some of the best marathons and endurance events to get interested in.

Abersoch Half Marathon – 04/10/2014 – 10am
The baby of the bunch but by no means a walkover, this half marathon will be taking in such stunning sights as Cardigan Bay, St Tudwal’s Island and Bardsley Island amongst others.

With a £1000 prize kitty available to the winner, expect there to be plenty of competition as soon as the starting gun goes off at 10am in the village. After something more family friendly? Then the Abersoch Holiday Homes 2K BLAST will be up before the main event and 9am and provide great fun for youngsters.

Snowman Triathlon – 05/10/2014 – Time TBA
If you’re feeling plucky, why not take this step up the day after the Abersoch event? No doubt your legs will feel a little bit like lead but the future belongs to the brave and all that!

As the closing part of the Always Aim Tri series of punishing endurance events, this might not be one for the faint of heart. The organisers seem to revel in testing entrants to their limits and you’d do very well to complete this one if you’re anything less than a professional athlete. Set in the Snowdonia National Park, expect a hill or two to test your resolve.

Snowdonia Marathon – 25/10/2014 – 9am
Now this is an endurance event that any self-proclaimed runner has to attempt to crack before they hang up the boots.

31 marathons have preceded this special occasion and it’s fair to say that it’s come a long way since the very first one which took place in 1982. Voted the Best British Marathon of the year in 2007 & 2011, the challenging terrain complemented by stunning landscapes will prove that it’s worth its pedigree.
