The Moelwyn Race is A Step Up for All Challengers

MoelwynWe here at Snowdon.com recently covered the upcoming Snowdonia Half Marathon, a great introduction to the sport for any distance runners. If you manage to conquer that test of endurance, there’s a similar occasion coming up on the 19th of April that’s a whole different ball game.

The setting of the fearsome peaks of Snowdonia is always a popular one for distance runners from far and wide with many always converging on this historic area for a really rewarding trial of their abilities. The Moelwyn Race coming up later in the month is just further testament to Snowdonia’s pedigree as the endurance capital of Britain.

It should be said straight off the bat about the Moelwyn Race that it is not a walk in the park and possibly one of the most gruelling competitions you can find anywhere in the country. It is not for the fainthearted at an astonishing ten and half mile course distance as the altitude gain rises to 2800 feet. You may need all the practice you can get for this premier occasion in the fell running calendar.

The course itself takes in the grand heights of the Moelwyn Mawr, Moelwyn Bach and Moel yr Hydd located in Blaenau Ffestiniog. As scenic as these peaks may be, it should be recommended to those with a fear of heights to give this event a swerve!

If you don’t feel like entering the Moelwyn Race (you won’t be judged!), you can instead enjoy some of the thrilling entertainment available to you in the nearby field with live music and acts promised for those who are cheering on their loved ones.

However you wish to spend the day, this occasion organised by the Antur Stiniog is going to be a great one with entry fees just £5 per adult and £2.50 for juniors. As one previous entrant said: “If you have any inclination for these things, put it in your diary – the London Marathon is pedestrian by comparison.”

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
