World Cup Bet Gone Wrong Results in Man Climbing Snowdon in a Thong

Emmerdale Believe it or not, that headline is not the start of a joke because one unlucky football fan actually had to do it and all for a good cause.

Jon Jolley of Wrexham was tasked with climbing the mighty Snowdon (no mean feat in the best of circumstances) whilst wearing just a thong after he bet incorrectly that Brazil would win the World Cup. No doubt after Germany slotted home the seventh goal against the hosts, Jolley would have been looking over at his wardrobe in resignation.

However, it wasn’t just for a laugh with friends as Jon also managed to raise £450 for Cancer Research UK in the process.  At the time of writing, total money raised stands at £816 which is 544% the original target!

“I think I’m a man of my word,” joked Jon, speaking from the top of the mountain.

“I usually make a bet and keep my mouth shut, but this time the likes of Neymar and David Luiz let me down big time. I didn’t even watch the game as I had loads of other things to do, so when I was told I was completely gutted.”

Trekkers up the world famous mountain might not have been prepared for the sight of Jon wearing just a thong but if they’re have known that he had upped his pledge from an initial £150 to £450, they may have applauded him on his way to the summit.

“There were quite a few shocked faces,” he added.

“But we couldn’t have picked a better day to do it. The weather was great apart from the very end when it got a little foggy at the top – which I guess was a blessing for people at the summit.”

Jolley completed the arduous trek alongside his cameraman accomplice, Leighton Cox. You can see footage from the journey below and if you’d like to donate to the cause, be sure to visit justgiving.com/jon-jolley
