If you’ve ever wanted to take on Snowdon but think it may be too fearsome or task, you now have no excuses. If this little guy from Shepton mallet can beat Wales’ biggest mountain, surely you can too!
Four miles is a tiring distance for anyone, let alone a four year old boy, but plucky Ewan Verel managed to do just that, and in only 5 hours. He even has the certificate to prove it!
Snowdon has long been one of the busiest mountains in Britain and as the tallest mountain in Wales, has plenty of national interest. Thanks to its iconic peaks and many nooks & crannies, thousands of people from all over try and conquer it.
Ewan’s dad Duncan: “We do a lot of walking from time to time during the holidays. We just go stay in a cottage and go around the countryside. We went to Snowdon for our summer holiday this year and Ewan climbed it up the Miners’ Track from Llanberis.”
“Snowdon is 3,560ft tall and the only other four-year-old we know who did it was his sister, Meghan, who’s now 10.”
The youngster’s reward for climbing the many feet to the peak of Snowdon was a stuffed teddy bear which he has christened Mounty. The Verel family then walked back down the mountain and looked back on a great day out.
As one of the busiest mountains in the country, Snowdon and its many sister ranges are closely monitored but this doesn’t mean that you should forget precautions. Make sure loved ones know where you’re going before you set off and check and then double check the items you’re bringing with you.
After you’ve hiked as much as you can in one day, it’s always a great option to get the train back down again and explore the Snowdonia National Park.
