Best Times to Visit
After heavy rain, Eryri's waterfalls reach their most dramatic. Autumn combines peak water levels with woodland colour — particularly around Betws-y-Coed and the Conwy Valley. Early morning visits reward photographers with better light and fewer visitors. Winter brings the possibility of ice formations on slower-moving cascades, though paths can become treacherous.

A tripod is essential for waterfall photography. Long exposures — typically between half a second and several seconds — smooth the water into silky motion while keeping surrounding rocks sharp. A polarising filter reduces glare and enhances colour saturation. Family-Friendly Waterfalls
Swallow Falls and Aber Falls both have excellent, well-maintained paths suitable for families with young children. The walk to Aber Falls (approximately 4km return) follows a broad track through a beautiful valley. Ceunant Mawr waterfall in Llanberis is barely 10 minutes' walk from the village centre. For a more adventurous family day, Conwy Falls combines a dramatic setting with a short walk that most children manage easily.
