Llanberis Track - PYG - Miners - Watkin Path - Rhydd Ddu. - Snowdon Ranger - Horseshoe
The most popular track up the mountain, with good flat sections to start with and great views throughout of the horseshoe.
Starting Point - Parking at Pen-y-Pass
(GR 647 557)
This route can become very busy at times and some people prefer to park elsewhere and use the snowdon Sherpa Bus Service from nearby villages. On the left (south) end the car park, the path heads off as a wide track south soon
turning west to pass above the small Llyn Teryn. In about 2 km the path turns a sharp right (turn left here if you wish to make the steep climb onto the much more difficult Y Lliwedd) carry on there is a small causeway takes you over to Llyn Llydaw . The track now bears left along the lakes shore past the ruins of mineworkings.
It gets steeper with a rise to Llyn Glaslyn. Keep going along the path around the lake and after some derilict buildings make a steep rocky ascent to join with the Pyg Track coming in from the right. Follow the Pyg track up the Zig Zags to
the Snowdon Railway marked by a 2m upright marker stone. Follow the railway left up to the summit. |
