Coed y Brenin — the King's Forest, above Dolgellau in southern Eryri — has some of the finest purpose-built mountain bike trails in Wales: a network of graded routes ranging from green family trails to demanding red and black technical routes, all through forested mountain terrain with views of the Mawddach valley and Cadair Idris. This is Experience #83 of the Snowdonia 100.

The Visitor Centre
The Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre has a cafe, bike hire, workshop facilities, and showers — everything needed for a full day. The centre is well-signed from the A470 north of Dolgellau. Parking can be busy on summer weekends; arriving early is recommended.
The Riding
The forest trails are hand-built to a high standard, with drainage, flow sections, and technical features appropriate to the grade. The red routes in particular have earned Coed y Brenin its reputation — sustained technical riding through mature forest with significant vertical gain and loss. The setting, with the Mawddach valley visible through gaps in the trees and the sounds of the forest around you, is as good as mountain biking in Wales gets.
