Snowdonia is famous throughout the country for its fantastic Llangollen Railway which is a wonderful day out to a simpler time when steam-powered trains ruled the tracks. If you want something on a smaller scale however, you’d be highly welcome at the Model Railway Show at the National Slate Museum in February.
Situated in Llanberis, the slate museum is a great venue which highlights all of the industry of times gone by from the north of Wales and regularly sees plenty of visitors, especially from fascinated young children on a school trip. What once was Dinorwig Quarry is now a place for youngsters to learn about the quarrymen’s work of years gone with tales of history interesting enough to intrigue even the biggest cynic!
Such an iconic place is the perfect location to celebrate another great part of Wales’ history and that is of the steam railway. Rather than being a bore for the youngsters, they can engage in a whole range of fantastic activities and events.
We’ve all wanted to play the role of the conductor at one stage and now the young ones can take that chance and full steam ahead with it as they can man the miniature steam engines and enjoy the ride!
If you want to educate as well as excite then there’s plenty of opportunity for it at the Model Railway Show. Industrial experts will be attending, eager to spill the beans on the history and techniques of mastering the railway, you’ll certainly take something valuable away from the experience – as well as a purchase from one of the stalls, of course.
Taking place between the 27th of February and the 2nd of March, this event for the family is completely free so you will have no better opportunity to dive into Wales’ rich history.
